Krakow, Poland

Zdjecia/Pictures
??? One of the first "historical" places we went to visit in Krakow, was the Wawel Castle. We went for Shepard's Mass on Christmas Eve night. Here are pictures taken in the daytime when we went back to tour the Cathedral, Armory, Bell Tower and grounds. Unfortunately I was unable to tour the Dragon's Lair!
??? This is a side view of the Cathedral. You can see the many small chapels that were added on in later years.
??? And of course no Castle is complete without a defense system!
??? I loved wandering through the narrow rafters in the Cathedral to see the bells. Here I am under the largest bell - Sigimundus. This bell is only rung on special occasions and it takes 12 men to pull the rope to ring it!
??? Within the bell tower are windows or shutters to the outside. Here is a view of Krakow from the bell tower at the Wawel.
??? While touring Old Krakow, we saw many churches. This church has the 12 Apostles lined up outside. Greg was teasing me that this was the smallest church in Krakow because even 12 men couldn't fit inside!
??? Located at one corner of the Rynek market square is the Holy Mary church. It was being renovated while we were there, but you can still get an impression of its size. It has the most beautiful ladies chapel inside.
??? Here is one of Greg's favorite churches. This is a Roman church and you can still see war damage on the sides.
??? This lion statue is located in the Rynek market square. Legend says that the lion will roar when a virgin sits on his back. Hmmm...
